History

The "Ice Cream Run for Kids Sake" was founded in 1995 by Delaware County business owners & motorcycle enthusiasts Raymond and Josann Seyforth, Jeffrey and Donna Hoyt and Deb and John Zale. The "Ice Cream Run For Kids Sake" began as a simple motorcycle ride to raise funds for a young boy with cancer. These bikers with big hearts put together a full day of events for riders and drivers of all kinds, as well as a chicken barbecue and benefit auction. The response of the local community and the support of the boy was over whelming

In 1996 the run was held again. The great response and tremendous support from everyone in the county resulted in the start of an annual event held in the spring of each year. Being motorcycle enthusiasts, the founders put together a 60 mile ride through the beautiful foothills and reservoir regions of the Catskill Mountains. After the ride, they entertained the hungry travelers with a chicken barbecue, live music, a benefit auction, bike show, 50/50 raffle and door prizes.

An organizational committee known as the Ice Cream Run Committee (ICRC), Inc. was formed in 1997 to coordinate all aspects of this fund raiser. In September of that year, in coordination with the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi, the ICRC, Inc. held a motor show and provided volunteer efforts at the professional wrestling exposition to benefit a baby with cystic fibrosis.

Over the past 12 years, the Ice Cream Run for Kid's Sake has directly helped over 60 local children and their families by raising $160,000.  The ICRC has also donated money to the O'Connor, Delaware Valley and Sidney Hospitals to help improve their pediatric units.

Every year, on the last weekend in July the ICRC sponsors the Ice Cream Run for Kind's Sake.  The moneys raised from this weekend event goes to children with life threatening illnesses and to purchase much needed equipment for local hospitals.  In 2006, the ICRC is looking to expand their local hospital donations to hospitals in the Broome County area.  With this in mind, the ICRC is looking to corporations to help increase the money available to the families of these children and support increased pediatrics in more hospitals.

Each year, new attractions continued to be added to the events of "run" day and the "Ice Cream Run For Kids Sake" has become one of the biggest events in the area.
